MISSISSAUGA - Mississauga’s citywide Driveway Windrow Snow Clearing Pilot Program, for older adults (65 years or older) and individuals who are physically disabled, will run from November 15, 2010 to April 2, 2011. Applications will be accepted from September 7 to October 29, 2010.

“The pilot program is returning this fall as Mississauga received low amounts of snowfall in 2009,” said Joe Pitushka, director of Engineering and
Works. “A ‘windrow’ is the snow that is left at the bottom of a driveway after a snowplow has cleared a road. The pilot program will provide windrow snow clearing service after every snow plowing operation.”
Pitushka said that participation in the program is available on a first come, first serve basis. The cost to participate is either free or $200, depending on whether the applicant meets financial assistance criteria. This pilot is limited to a total of 3,500 spaces - 2,500 fall under the no cost category and 1,000 are under the $200 cost category for the pilot.
